If you have read my posts about our favorite Halloween and Fall books for toddlers and preschoolers, you already know that I am a huge fan of utilizing books to introduce holidays, seasons and traditions to my kids. It helps them learn about the different seasons and gives them a better understanding about what is happening around them.

Out of all holidays, Christmas is by far my favorite! I love the magic, the coziness, lots of family time and just everything about it. There is no better time than Christmas season to cuddle up with your kids and read fun and engaging seasonal books.

Below you will find a list of 20 Christmas themed books for toddlers. All books are generally suitable for very young children between 1 and 3 years old. However, some books are still very much enjoyed by my almost 5 year old. Every child is different, some toddlers may already be able to listen to a 10 minute story, while others have a shorter attention span. And that is okay! When my 2 year old starts to loose focus, I just shorten books, skip over pages or leave sentences out. Do what works best for you and your kid.

Duck & Goose, It’s time for Christmas

I love the Duck & Goose books and this Christmas one is especially cute. A sturdy board book with large simple illustrations, perfect for little hands.

Dream Snow

If you have a toddler, you probably have already read ‘The very hungry caterpillar’. This is another book by Eric Carle with a very simple plot and beautiful illustrations. Chose between hardcover and board book.

If your child enjoys the ‘If you give your Mouse a cookie’ book series, they will love this board book about Mouse decorating the Christmas tree.

Bear stays up for Christmas

I love this book. The illustrations are adorable and the story is cute and very easy to follow for even young toddlers. Bear’s friends are trying to keep him awake for Christmas by doing all the traditional Christmas things, like baking cookies and hanging up stockings.

The littlest elf

Read about Oliver, the smallest elf on the north pole who struggles to find his place in Santa’s workshop because of his size, until he one day finds something he is great at. A cute story with a great moral.

Little blue truck’s Christmas

The ‘Little blue truck’s Christmas’ is one of our favorite Christmas books. We have had it since my daughter was one year old and it is a hit every year. Follow along as little blue truck delivers Christmas trees to all his friends. Your toddler will love the light up Christmas tree on the last page.

Llama llama jingle bells is the perfect book for the youngest toddlers who do not have a very big attention span. Each page contains only a few sentences and simple yet cute illustrations.

Santa’s Big Day

Follow along as Santa prepares for Christmas with this adorable finger puppet board book. Young toddlers love the finger puppet books and even my 4 year old still enjoys them.

Don’t shake the present!

Don’t shake the present is a great interactive book that will engage your toddler and help them keep their attention. We have multiple books out of the ‘Don’t push the button’ series and they are always a big hit.
