A Halloween scavenger hunt is the perfect activity for the days leading up to Halloween.

When the houses in your neighborhood are decorated with witches, pumpkins, spiders and orange lights, it is the perfect time to enjoy a Halloween walk with the entire family. Combining a walk through your neighborhood with a scavenger hunt will keep your kids of all ages engaged and foster the excitement for the season. The scavenger hunt is also a great activity for any Halloween party.

Besides bringing joy and excitement the Halloween scavenger hunt is a great tool to get your younger child accustomed with the Halloween characters and traditions. It is also a great resource to prepare your toddler or small kid for their very first trick-or-treating experience. It will help them understand what the season is all about.

I have used the non-spooky Halloween scavenger hunt with my oldest daughter and she loved it so much, we did it over and over during the two weeks leading up to Halloween. I will also use it again this year to prepare my two-year-old for his first Halloween, that he will actively be able to participate in.

If you’re looking for more information about how to prepare your toddler or young child for their first trick-or-treating, check out my blog post ‘Trick-or-Treating with toddlers: 6 tips for an enjoyable Halloween’. It contains helpful tips and tricks for a meltdown-free, successful first trick-or-treating with your toddler.

I have created a Halloween scavenger hunt suitable for toddlers, preschoolers, older children and the entire family. All pictures used in the scavenger hunt are non-spooky and should be easily found in your decorated neighborhood.

You can even turn this into an indoor scavenger hunt by either using your indoor decor or by printing, then cutting out each picture from the scavenger hunt template and hiding them around your house.

This can either be a slow paced activity, where kids just find as many items as they can or you can make it a little competition and see who can find all or a set number of items first. Having a little competition may make the scavenger hunt even more exciting for older children.

I recommend laminating the scavenger hunt and using dry-erase markers. That way you can use it multiple times and even store it away with your seasonal decor for the next year.

I recommend you also check out my free Fall Nature Scavenger Hunt for more family fun.
